Jack has the power to “Shine” and uses telekinesis to let himself out of the storeroom (click here). If Grady were real and had this power also he would have been able to get him out of the hedge maze at the end of the movie in the same way. He didn’t loose his special power in the end of the movie; he only exists in Jack’s mind and obviously never had any power in the first place.
